I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
—Psalms 121:1-8

My Help, My Hope, My Lord
By Jennifer Kane
God has been my help and my helper in countless ways.
He’s been a friend when I was friendless,
Hope when I felt hopeless,
Light in my darkest hours,
Color when my world turned gray,
Life when I longed for death.
I look up,
Not to the idols in the mountains that surround me.
I look up,
Not even to the skies and their endless wonders.
I look up,
And I seek Him desperately.
I am the one who quivers and quakes,
The one who runs and hides,
The one who sins with doubt—
Doubting that the strength of God’s promises and guidance
Surpass my best days striving on my own.
He shows favor when I am faithless.
He provides for me, even when I feel entitled.
He blesses me daily,
Though I often toss His gifts aside.
He deserves so much more.
God has never forgotten me.
He sees my soul and my dreams.
Even when my spirit falters,
He is there to strengthen me.
God has shielded me from harm—
Both physical and mental—
And is building a castle of crystal
Where once there was only dust in my soul.
He sees my every step, my every stumble.
Whether I’m caught or fall flat,
He gives me the strength to rise,
And holds my hand when I can’t stand on my own.
I was lost for so long,
Trapped in a fog of misery and emptiness.
Yet He was there, cradling me gently,
Like a spun-glass ornament in His hands—
A precious creation.
He holds me with care,
Knowing what could make me break.
I feel safe.
I feel loved.
I walk with confidence,
For God walks with me.
Even now, He holds me.
I feel secure.
I weep with relief and release.
God is here.
I thank Him for reminding me to look up to Him—
Not to the mountains or the skies,
But to Him alone.
God is here.
I hope you feel Him now.

Scriptures: Psalm 121:1-8
Life’s journey can often feel like a pilgrimage, filled with challenges, uncertainties, and moments of overwhelming need. Psalm 121 invites us to pause and ask: Where does my help come from? In a world full of distractions, false securities, and fleeting comforts, the psalmist’s answer points us directly to the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
This declaration is more than a simple statement—it’s a testimony of faith. The psalmist reminds us that God is sovereign and intimately involved in our lives. He is our unfailing source of strength, protection, and guidance, not just in extraordinary moments but in the mundane, everyday steps of our journey.
The Lord is a present help in times of need (v. 1-2). He doesn’t just offer temporary solutions but provides eternal, sovereign help.
God is a constant helper. He is always available and never slumbers (v. 3-4). This truth offers comfort, especially in moments when we feel forgotten or alone.
God’s care is comprehensive. He watches over all aspects of our lives—our comings and goings, our days and nights (v. 5-8). His protection is not limited by time or circumstances.
Faith requires active trust. Believing in God’s promises is not passive; it’s a daily decision to rely on Him rather than our own strength. This is the faith that sustains us on life’s journey.
When you face challenges, where do you instinctively turn for help? How does Psalm 121 reshape your understanding of God’s role in your daily life? What steps can you take this week to actively trust God as your Helper and Keeper?
Today read Psalm 121 aloud and pray for God’s guidance and protection for the day ahead. At the end of the day, take a moment to reflect on how He has helped or sustained you. Write down specific examples of His faithfulness to build your own testimony of trust in Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Helper, Keeper, and Protector. Teach me to trust You more deeply each day, knowing that You guard my steps and guide my path. Help me to lift my eyes to You, not to the distractions or false securities around me. May Your faithfulness be my confidence, and may I always remember that my help comes from You, the Maker of heaven and earth. Amen.
