When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Crowned With Honor
By Jennifer Kane
Standing firm in faith, he faced the crowd,
Truth on his lips, his heart unbowed.
Endless courage, with heaven in sight,
Praying for mercy, in the darkest night.
Holding steadfast, he would not yield,
Even as stones became his battlefield.
Noble in spirit, his soul set free,
Stephen’s witness, a legacy to be.

Scripture: Acts 7:54-60
The account of Stephen’s martyrdom is a powerful testament to unwavering faith, courage, and grace under fire. As we explore this passage, we discover lessons that are deeply relevant for our walk with Christ today.
Stephen’s sermon from earlier in this chapter cut the hearts of the council, convicting them deeply. However, instead of repentance, their conviction led to rage. This reminds us that sharing the truth of the gospel may not always be met with acceptance. Yet, we are called to speak truth in love, leaving the results to God.
How do we respond when faced with opposition for our faith? Do we shrink back or stand firm in the truth?
Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, saw a vision of Jesus standing at the right hand of God. This vision symbolizes Jesus’ solidarity and support in Stephen’s moment of trial. The Holy Spirit empowered Stephen, giving him courage and peace.
In moments of trial, are we seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Let us draw strength from God’s presence, trusting that Jesus stands with us.
Even as he faced death, Stephen mirrored Jesus’ forgiveness, praying for his persecutors. His prayer for their forgiveness reflects a heart fully surrendered to God’s will.
Are we able to extend forgiveness even in the face of injustice or persecution? Let Stephen’s example inspire us to forgive, trusting that God’s justice prevails.
Stephen’s final words were a declaration of trust, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” His death, described as falling asleep, reminds us of the eternal hope we have in Christ. Death is not the end but a transition to eternal life with God.
Are we living each day with an eternal perspective? Let us remain faithful, knowing that our ultimate hope is in Christ.
Today let’s reflect on how we can stand firm in our faith amidst challenges. Consider reaching out to someone who may oppose your beliefs with a spirit of love and forgiveness. Trust God to work through your actions and words.

Heavenly Father, fill us with Your Holy Spirit as You did with Stephen. Grant us courage to stand firm in our faith, even in the face of opposition. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us, and keep our hearts fixed on the eternal hope we have in You. May our lives be a testament to Your grace, mercy, and truth. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
