“Hope in the Everlasting God”

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
—Isaiah 40:28-31

Hope in the Everlasting God
By Jennifer Kane

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord, the Creator of all, the living Word.
He never tires, never fades away,
His wisdom profound, beyond words to say.

Those who hope in God have their strength renewed,
A wellspring of power, a force imbued.
When I wait on the Lord, my heart revives,
Like the dawn breaking forth, my soul thrives.

It’s a divine restoration, pure and true,
A strength only God’s mercy can imbue.
In the midst of trial, when all seems lost,
He lifts me higher, no matter the cost.

He grants endurance when the road grows long,
His spirit makes the weak stand strong.
Even when youth stumbles, weary and worn,
I am lifted on wings as if reborn.

I will fly, by the hope of God’s eternal hand,
I’ll soar like eagles, over sea and land.
I’ll run and not grow tired in the race,
For the Lord renews me by His grace.

With every step, His strength abides,
I walk with faith, for He is by my side.
My spirit rejuvenated, alive once more,
By His love, I am free to soar.

Scripture: Isaiah 40:28-31

The passage from Isaiah is one of the most powerful promises in Scripture. It speaks directly to our human frailty but counters it with the infinite strength of God. The prophet begins by asking, “Do you not know? Have you not heard?” It’s a reminder to look beyond our present struggles and remember who God is—He is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. Unlike us, God never grows tired or weary. His wisdom and power are beyond our comprehension.

The metaphor of the eagle is significant. Eagles are known for their ability to soar high above storms, catching the wind currents and gliding effortlessly. They don’t flap endlessly, wasting energy. Instead, they harness the power of the wind to carry them higher. In the same way, we are called to wait on God’s Spirit—to allow His strength, not ours, to lift us up. When we try to rely on our own efforts, we quickly burn out. But when we rest in God, we find ourselves empowered to rise above life’s challenges, just like the eagle soars above the storm.

Isaiah also touches on a profound reality: even youth, with all their energy and vigor, grow tired. In our culture, youthfulness is often associated with endless energy and strength. Yet, the passage reminds us that even the strongest among us will face moments of exhaustion and stumbling. No one is immune to the struggles of life. But the hope is that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. This isn’t just physical strength; it’s emotional, mental, and spiritual renewal as well.

Think about the moments in your life when you’ve felt utterly drained. Perhaps it’s been a long season of hardship, illness, or emotional stress. Maybe you’ve been carrying the weight of responsibilities that seem too heavy. The truth is, we weren’t created to carry these burdens alone. God invites us to cast our cares on Him, to trust Him with our weariness, and to lean on His everlasting strength.

This reflection isn’t just about gaining strength for today; it’s about living in a way that continually draws from God’s endless supply. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. The more we rely on Him, the more He sustains us. It’s a beautiful exchange—our weakness for His strength, our weariness for His endurance. And as we trust Him, we find that we can run the race set before us, not in our own power, but with the power of God.

Where do you feel most weary in your life right now? Is it a physical, emotional, or spiritual weariness? Are there burdens you’re carrying that you need to surrender to God? What would it look like for you to “wait on the Lord” in your current circumstances?

I challenge you to take intentional time each day to wait on the Lord. This might look like spending quiet moments in prayer, meditating on God’s promises, or simply resting in His presence without trying to “solve” anything on your own. Each day, ask God to renew your strength and lift your spirit.

If you find yourself tempted to push through in your own power, remind yourself of the eagle. Let God’s Spirit lift you. Trust that He is faithful to provide the strength you need—not just to survive but to soar above your challenges.

When you see His hand at work in your life, it strengthens your faith and gives you a testimony to share with others who might be weary themselves. Let this be a season where you not only receive God’s renewal but encourage others to place their hope in the everlasting God as well.
