“Rhetorical Questions”

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
– Romans 8:31-35

Rhetorical Questions
By Jennifer Kane

If God is for me, who dares stand against?
What can compare to His Son’s great expense?
He gave Him so freely—what would He withhold?
Who dares accuse me, in Christ’s arms enfold?
Can hardship or trial tear me apart?
Can famine or scarcity empty my heart?
Will nakedness strip the dignity I wear,
When Christ clothes me fully with love beyond compare?
Can danger or death undo His embrace?
When Christ overcame, who’ll finish the race?
The sufferings of earth, will they cancel His word?
Or will His promises remain undeterred?
Who can snatch me from His eternal hand,
The One who holds time and the vastness of land?
Will storms of life drown out His voice of peace,
Or will His love in me only increase?
Can darkness now dim the light in my soul,
Or the weight of His love fail to make me whole?
No force in creation can weaken or break
The victory Christ has for my sake.
He died and He rose, intercedes on His throne—
Who can remove me from love He has shown?
Who can undo what He’s secured for me?
In Him, I live, and in Him, I’m free!

Scriptures: Romans 8:31-35

The love described in Romans 8 is staggering in its depth. Paul, inspired by the Spirit, lays out a powerful rhetorical question: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” It’s as if he’s daring us to name anything or anyone capable of overpowering God’s love for His children. There is none.
Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price, not only in His death but in His resurrection, and He now sits at the right hand of God, continually interceding on our behalf. When we feel the weight of accusations—whether from others, our own conscience, or the enemy—we must remember: It is God who justifies. And because of this, no condemnation can stick.
This passage is an unshakable declaration of the security we have in Christ. What power can famine, hardship, or even death have against the love of Jesus? Nothing can separate us. Not danger, not trials, not suffering. When Christ said, “It is finished,” He meant that nothing—absolutely nothing—can undo what He has done.
Today, let’s reflect on the certainty of God’s love for us. It’s easy to let doubt creep in when hardship strikes, or when we feel like we’ve failed. But this passage from Romans reminds us that nothing can stand against God’s love for us, and that means nothing should shake our confidence in His promises.
Ask yourself these things: Am I living in the freedom Christ has secured for me? Are there situations where I let fear, doubt, or guilt separate me from the assurance of His love?
Take a moment today to thank God for the unbreakable love He has for you. Let the reality of Christ’s victory over sin and death shape how you approach every challenge. No matter what life throws at you, hold on to the truth: In Him, you are free.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the unshakable love You have poured out through Jesus Christ. When doubt and fear whisper lies, remind me of the truth: You are for me, and nothing can stand against me. Thank You for not sparing Your own Son, but graciously giving Him for my salvation. Because of Him, I are justified, redeemed, and held securely in Your hands.

Lord, help me live boldly in the freedom Christ has won. Strengthen me when trials come, when accusations rise, and when the weight of this world presses down. Let me cling to the promise that no trouble, no danger, no power can separate me from Your love.

Fill my heart with peace, confidence, and hope, knowing that Christ intercedes for me daily. Shape my life to reflect the depth of Your love, and may I walk in faith, fully trusting in Your victory. In the name of Jesus, who died, rose, and reigns forever, I pray. Amen.
