“Trust In His Ways”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
—Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in His Ways
By Jennifer Kane

My ways are crooked, but His are straight,
My mind is clouded, yet His wisdom’s great.
In fear of evil, I’ve often cowered,
But true fear of God brings greater power.
Not trembling at darkness, nor dread of the night,
But reverent awe in His glorious light.

Health to my body, peace to my soul,
In trusting His plan, I’m made whole.
Let me surrender, and not lean on my mind,
In His perfect will, true freedom I find.
I’ll walk His path, let Him take control—
For He alone can heal and make me whole.

His ways bring peace, a calm to my strife,
For in His hands, He holds my life.
In all my steps, I’ll seek His grace,
To find His wisdom, to see His face.
Each trial I face, I’ll trust and not fear,
For with my Shepherd, I know He is near.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-8

Life is full of uncertainties. We plan, we prepare, and yet so often, things do not go the way we expect. In those moments, where do we turn? Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust in the Lord with all our heart—not just a part, not only when it’s easy, but completely.

To trust in God is to surrender, to acknowledge that His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). It means letting go of our pride, our limited understanding, and choosing instead to lean on His infinite wisdom.

God does not ask us to blindly step forward without guidance. He promises that when we trust Him, He will direct our steps. This does not mean life will always be easy, but it does mean we will be walking in the path He has prepared—a path of righteousness, peace, and eternal purpose.

Verse 7 warns against the arrogance of being “wise in your own eyes.” How often do we convince ourselves that we know best? The world tells us to follow our hearts, but Scripture reminds us that our own understanding is flawed (Jeremiah 17:9). Instead, we are called to fear the Lord and depart from evil.

This fear is not terror, but reverent awe. When we truly honor God as sovereign, it transforms how we live. We begin to choose His wisdom over worldly counsel, His truth over fleeting emotions, and His path over our own desires.

Trusting God is not just a spiritual discipline—it brings wholeness. When we surrender control to Him, we find peace instead of anxiety, joy instead of fear, and spiritual strength that sustains us even in trials.

Where in your life are you struggling to trust God fully? Are you holding on to fear, trying to control outcomes, or relying too much on your own understanding?

Take time today to surrender those areas to God. Acknowledge Him in all your ways—big and small—and trust that He is faithful to lead you.

What is one area of your life where you struggle to trust God fully? How can you acknowledge God in your daily decisions this week? How does trusting in God bring peace and strength to your life? May we all walk in His wisdom, leaning not on our own understanding, but fully trusting in Him.

Father, I confess that I often rely on my own understanding instead of trusting in You completely. Help me to surrender my fears, my plans, and my decisions into Your hands. Teach me to walk in Your ways, to fear You above all else, and to find peace in Your wisdom. Direct my steps, Lord, and help me to trust that You are leading me on the right path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
