Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Mem מ: Sweeter Than Honey
By Jennifer Kane
Your word, O Lord, is a feast laid before me,
a table of truth, a banquet of wisdom.
I taste, and it is sweeter than honey,
rich with mercy, seasoned with grace.
I cannot force love, but I can nurture it—
setting your word before me day and night,
turning its pages in the hush of morning,
letting its whispers linger in the quiet of night.
I lean in to listen—
not to change it, but to be changed.
Not to shape it, but to be shaped.
Not to bend it, but to be bent toward You.
Your word is a letter from my Father,
a lamp in the valley, a song in the silence.
It is my freedom, my inheritance,
the evidence of who I am—
not lost, but found,
not forsaken, but called by name.
Let its precepts color my days,
its promises light my path,
its exhortations steady my steps.
May I carry it always,
not as a burden, but as a treasure,
not as duty, but as delight.
You, Lord God
are the Living Word
I will never forget
for your word is life,
your word is love,
your word is sweeter than honey
to my soul.

Scripture: Psalms 119:97-104
These verses are a beautiful declaration of love for God’s Word, revealing how it guides, strengthens, and transforms those who cherish it. The psalmist meditates on the law of the Lord, finding wisdom, discernment, and protection from evil. This deep affection for God’s truth is inseparable from a hatred of sin and falsehood.
Loving God means loving His Word because it reveals His character and will. The more we immerse ourselves in Scripture, the more we align with His ways and reject the world’s deceit. Just as the psalmist declares that God’s words are sweeter than honey, we too should cultivate a love for Scripture that surpasses the temptations of the world.
This passage also challenges us to examine our hearts. Do we truly delight in God’s commands, or do we find them burdensome? Do we actively reject sin, or do we tolerate it? The psalmist reminds us that true understanding comes from obedience. As we walk in God’s precepts, we gain discernment that worldly wisdom cannot offer. His Word gives us the strength to turn away from evil and live in the light of His truth.
Commit to daily meditation on Scripture. Let it fill your heart and shape your actions. Ask God to deepen your love for His Word and to give you the discernment to reject every false way. Take time today to read Psalm 119:97-104 slowly, reflecting on how you can grow in love for God’s truth and hatred for sin. How will you apply His Word to your life this week?

Heavenly Father, Your Word is my treasure, sweeter than honey, guiding my steps and shaping my heart. Teach me to love Your precepts, meditate on them daily, and walk in obedience. Give me wisdom beyond this world and strength to reject false paths. May Your truth be my joy, not a burden, and dwell in me richly. Let it transform my thoughts and actions, drawing me closer to You. You, O Lord, are the Living Word—my refuge, my delight, my song. Keep me hungry for Your truth always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
