“Ayin ע: Right and True”

I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors. Ensure your servant’s well-being; do not let the arrogant oppress me. My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise. Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes. It is time for you to act, Lord; your law is being broken. Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.
—Psalms 119:121-128

Ayin ע: Right and True
By Jennifer Kane

I have done what is just and right,
yet I wait for Your salvation.
The weight of the world leans heavy,
but Your word stands firm—
unshaken, unwavering, unbent.

When You speak of kings and nations,
of floods and pillars of fire,
it is not myth, not dream,
but truth etched in the stone of time.
The past You have written
is the past that was.

When Your songs rise like incense,
when hearts cry out in lament
or dance with joy,
it is not empty verse.
These words were breathed in anguish,
were lifted in rapture—
real as the sky,
real as the storm,
real as the stillness after.

When You declare what is to come,
the rise and fall of kingdoms,
the trembling of the earth,
the breaking of dawn upon the weary—
it is not guesswork, not chance.
It is the voice of the One
who sees the end from the start,
who calls forth what will be.

When You command,
when You teach,
when You set the narrow path before me,
it is not mere advice.
It is the way of life,
the path of peace,
the road that leads to You.

When You reveal Yourself,
when You speak Your name,
when You stretch out hands of mercy,
it is not for us to shape You as we wish,
but to bow before the truth of who You are—
holy, mighty, just, and near.

Every word You have spoken,
every line, every breath,
is right and true.
And so I walk in them,
so I trust in them,
so I cling to them—
for they are my light,
and they are my life.

Scripture: Psalms 119:121-128

In this passage, the psalmist expresses a deep longing for God’s justice, protection, and guidance. He has walked in righteousness, yet he is surrounded by oppression. His soul aches for God’s intervention, his eyes straining to see the fulfillment of God’s promises. This is a cry of both desperation and trust—a plea for God to act, yet rooted in unwavering faith in His Word.

How often do we, like the psalmist, find ourselves weary in waiting? We strive to do what is right, yet we face opposition. We long for justice, yet the world seems unjust. We seek understanding, yet confusion clouds our way. In those moments, we must cling to what we know to be true:

God’s Word is unshaken. It has endured through all generations, proving itself time and again.
God’s promises are not empty. Though we may not see them fulfilled immediately, He is faithful.
God’s justice will prevail. Evil may seem to triumph for a time, but the Lord acts in His perfect timing.

Like the psalmist, we are called to love His commands more than gold. Not because they bring worldly wealth, but because they bring life, wisdom, and peace. To walk in His ways is to walk in the light, even when darkness presses in.

Have you ever felt like the psalmist—struggling to do what is right while waiting for God to act? How did you respond? What does it mean to you that God’s Word is “right and true”? How can you deepen your love for God’s commands and trust in His timing?

~~~~~
Father God, I lift my heart to You. I trust in Your unshaken Word. Do not leave me oppressed, but ensure my well-being according to Your steadfast love. Lord, teach me to walk in Your ways with unwavering faith, to love Your commands more than any worldly wealth. Give me discernment to understand Your statutes and the strength to follow them. Help me cling to Your truth, for Your Word is my light and my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
