“Shin ש: Awe Over God’s Word.”

Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word. I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil. I hate and detest falsehood but I love your law. Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws. Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. I wait for your salvation, Lord, and I follow your commands. I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly. I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you.
—Psalms 119:161-168

Shin ש: Awe Over God’s Word.
By Jennifer Kane

You are beautiful beyond description,
Too marvelous for mortal words.
Your wisdom shines beyond the heavens,
Your love unmeasured, vast, and sure.

Who can grasp Your boundless knowledge?
Who can fathom grace so deep?
Your truth endures through every season,
Your promises my soul will keep.

You are awesome beyond description,
Majestic, high, enthroned above.
Yet in Your Word, You bend to meet me,
And call me close with steadfast love.

So I stand, I stand in wonder,
I rejoice in all You say.
Peace and hope are found within You,
Guiding me in wisdom’s way.

Holy God, to whom all praise is due,
Your law is joy—my heart’s delight.
Though the world may scorn and mock me,
Still, I walk within Your light.

Scripture: Psalm 119:161-168

The psalmist’s love for God’s Word is unwavering—even in the face of persecution. While earthly rulers oppose him, his heart remains anchored in the awe of God’s Word. He does not waver in faith but finds joy, peace, and strength in the truth of God’s commands.

The psalmist does not tremble before earthly powers; instead, he stands in reverence before God’s truth. When we fear God rightly—acknowledging His majesty and sovereignty—our fear of men diminishes. As Spurgeon put it, “A greater fear drives out the less.” Are you more in awe of the pressures of this world, or do you stand in awe of God’s eternal Word?

The psalmist sees Scripture not as a burden but as a discovered treasure—something of immeasurable worth. Just as a warrior gathers spoils from victory, we are enriched when we meditate on God’s promises. Do we approach the Bible as a treasure chest waiting to be opened, or merely as an obligation?

Loving God’s law does more than inform us—it transforms us. It brings peace in the storm and keeps our steps firm. This is not a promise of an easy life, but of a heart anchored in truth. When life shakes you, do you stand firm in God’s peace?

Take a moment to reflect on the greatness of God’s Word. What passage has deeply impacted you? Approach the Bible today with fresh eyes, seeking wisdom and joy in its pages. If you are feeling anxious, meditate on Psalm 119:165 and ask God for His unshakable peace.

Heavenly Father, Your Word is my greatest treasure. In a world full of uncertainty, help me to stand in awe of Your truth rather than fear the trials before me. Let me rejoice in Your promises and walk in the peace that only You can give. Strengthen my love for Your Word so that nothing can make me stumble. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
