Bread of Gratitude
By Jennifer Kane
Giving Thanks | Daily Bread
In all I do, I lift my hands, | A simple prayer for what I need,
A grateful heart, a song of praise. | Enough for now, no feast, no greed.
In want or plenty, joy remains, | The table bare or richly spread,
For every gift, my soul gives thanks. | I trust You, Lord, for daily bread.
You fill the hungry, quench the dry, | You portion manna as You will,
Your mercy flows, it satisfies. | Not more, not less—but just enough.
Before the meal, I bow and pray, | I take, I eat, with reverence fed,
My Savior gave thanks before He gave. | And find my soul sustained instead.
With prayer and thanks, I bring my need, | Should riches come, let me recall,
Yet trust Your wisdom in reply. | My portion’s grace—no less, no more.
For all You give, my heart will sing, | And in contentment, I will say:
I have enough. My God provides. | I have enough. My God provides.

Scriptures: Colossians 3:17, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Psalm 107:8-9, Philippians 4:6
Each day, we have countless reasons to give thanks. From the air we breathe to the food on our table, every good thing is a gift from God. Yet, in the busyness of life, it’s easy to take His provision for granted. The Bible teaches us to cultivate gratitude—not just in times of abundance but in every season of life.
True gratitude is not based on our situation but on our trust in God. Even in times of hardship, we can give thanks, knowing that He is our provider and sustainer. When the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, God provided manna daily (Exodus 16). He didn’t give them excess but just enough to teach them reliance on Him. Similarly, Proverbs 30:8-9 reminds us to seek only our daily bread, so we never become prideful or forget our dependence on God.
When Jesus fed the five thousand, He didn’t just multiply the loaves and fish—He first gave thanks (Matthew 15:36). Even in miraculous provision, He modeled gratitude. How much more should we pause and give thanks for the meals before us, recognizing them as evidence of God’s love and care?
Thanksgiving is an essential part of our prayers. When we thank God, even as we bring our needs before Him, we acknowledge His faithfulness. Gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what He has already provided, strengthening our faith in His ongoing care.
Daily bread is more than just food—it represents God’s provision for every aspect of our lives. Whether in times of plenty or scarcity, we are called to live with grateful hearts. When we thank Him for what we have today, we cultivate trust that He will provide for tomorrow.
Every day, God provides for our needs in ways both big and small. From the food on our tables to the breath in our lungs, His provision is a constant reminder of His faithfulness. Yet, in the busyness of life, it’s easy to take these gifts for granted. Today, let’s pause and reflect on the importance of giving thanks for our daily bread—both the physical and spiritual nourishment God provides.
Gratitude turns what we have into enough. As we give thanks for our daily bread, we acknowledge God’s goodness and faithfulness in every season of life. Let’s carry this spirit of thankfulness into every moment, knowing that He is the source of all good things.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being our Provider. You satisfy our hunger and quench our thirst, both physically and spiritually. Help us to live with grateful hearts, giving thanks in all circumstances. Teach us to trust in Your daily provision and to rely on You for all that we need. May our lives be a testament to Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
