“Before It’s Too Late”

Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”— before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim; when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades; when people rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint; when people are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags itself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then people go to their eternal home and mourners go about the streets. Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, and the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel broken at the well, and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
Ecclesiastes 12:1-7

Before It’s Too Late
By Jennifer Kane

Remember Him now,
while your steps are still light,
before the weight of years slows you down,
before laughter feels distant,
before joy is a memory wrapped in dust.

Seek Jesus while your hands are steady,
while your heart still burns with longing,
before your strength fades,
before your vision blurs,
before the songs you once loved
become faint echoes in the wind.

Don’t wait until fear keeps you inside,
until the streets feel too dangerous,
until desire is a shadow
dragging itself across the ground.

Come before the silver cord is cut,
before the golden bowl crashes to the floor,
before the well runs dry,
before your breath is drawn
one final time.

Don’t wait.
The door is open now.
Run to Him while you still can.

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 12:1-7

Life moves quickly. The vibrancy of youth fades, strength declines, and time continues forward with no pause. Solomon, the wisest man of his time, urges us to seek God now—before the “silver cord is loosed” and life’s delicate thread breaks beyond repair. The poetic imagery in Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 is sobering: a golden bowl shattering, a pitcher broken at the fountain, the dust returning to the earth. It reminds us that our earthly bodies are temporary, and we will one day stand before our Creator.

Too often, people delay seeking God, thinking they have more time. They pursue their own plans, pleasures, and ambitions, assuming they can turn to Him later. But Solomon warns us—later is uncertain. The years will pass, and eventually, the opportunity to know God in this life will be gone.

God desires a relationship with you today, not when you have exhausted your youth or stand at death’s door. Knowing Him now changes how you live—it gives you wisdom, purpose, and joy that the world cannot offer. It prepares you for eternity, so that when the day comes for your spirit to return to God, you will do so with peace, not regret.

Have you put off growing in your relationship with God, assuming you have more time?
What is one step you can take today to seek God more intentionally?

Spend time in prayer today, asking God to help you seek Him wholeheartedly. If there’s an area of your life where you’ve been delaying obedience, surrender it to Him now. Don’t wait—choose to walk with your Creator today.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of life and the time You have given me. Help me to seek You now, not waiting for a future that is never guaranteed. Soften my heart to Your wisdom and guide my steps in Your truth. Let me live each day with purpose, remembering that my life belongs to You. When my days are done, may I stand before You with joy, not regret. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
