It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts! Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. But you, Lord, are forever exalted. For surely your enemies, Lord, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me. My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes. The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
— Psalms 92:1-15

The Goodness of Giving Thanks to the LORD
By Jennifer Kane
Thank You, LORD, for You are good,
and Your steadfast love endures forever.
Morning by morning, Your faithfulness shines,
and by night, Your love remains.
You, O LORD, are exalted forever!
No one compares to You.
Thank You, my Rock—unchanging, steadfast, and true.
You are righteous, LORD;
Your ways are just and perfect.
How great are Your works, O LORD!
Your wisdom is beyond my understanding.
The heavens declare Your glory,
the earth reveals Your wonders—
and I stand in awe.
You have made me glad by Your deeds, O LORD!
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands.
Thank You for salvation,
for the gift of Jesus Christ,
for the mercy that shapes my soul.
You defend me, You shelter me—
my refuge, my fortress, my shield.
When I am weary, You lift me up;
when I falter, You renew my strength.
You have made me strong like the wild ox,
anointed me with fresh oil—
blessing upon blessing.
Thank You, LORD, that the righteous flourish
like the palm tree, like the cedar of Lebanon.
Even in old age, I will bear fruit,
rooted in Your house,
thriving in Your courts forever.
Your Spirit fills me—
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness overflow.
You reign, LORD, unchallenged and supreme.
Your kingdom has no end,
Your justice will prevail.
You have prepared a place for me,
and one day, I will see You face to face,
dwelling in Your presence forever.
Your faithfulness never wavers,
Your love never fails—
for this, and for all things, I give You thanks.

Scripture: Psalms 92:1-15
Psalm 92 is a beautiful psalm of gratitude, traditionally associated with the Sabbath. It begins with a simple yet profound truth: “It is good to give thanks to the LORD.” Giving thanks is not only right but also beneficial—it uplifts the heart, aligns our focus with God’s goodness, and sets an example for others. Our worship and thanksgiving should not be occasional but a regular part of our daily lives, as we acknowledge God’s lovingkindness in the morning and His faithfulness at night.
The psalmist reminds us that worship should be expressed in various ways—through singing, declarations of God’s goodness, and even with music. Thanksgiving is not just an inward attitude; it is an active response to God’s greatness.
Why Should We Give Thanks? The psalm provides several reasons why thanksgiving is fitting for God’s people:
He is the Most High, the covenant-keeping God, whose character is unchanging.
The psalmist declares, “For You, LORD, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands.” (Psalm 92:4) God’s creation, providence, and acts of salvation are all reasons for joy.
God’s thoughts and plans are deeper than we can fathom (Psalm 92:5). Even when the wicked seem to flourish for a time, their end is destruction, while the righteous are established by God.
A life rooted in gratitude to God leads to strength and flourishing. Later in the psalm, the righteous are compared to a palm tree and a cedar of Lebanon—trees that grow strong and endure through time (Psalm 92:12-15). When we cultivate a habit of thanksgiving, we grow in spiritual stability, joy, and resilience.
Take a moment to reflect on God’s faithfulness in your life. Start and end your day with thanksgiving—perhaps by writing down three things you are grateful for each morning and night. Consider incorporating music into your worship, whether through singing hymns, playing an instrument, or listening to songs that remind you of God’s goodness.

Heavenly Father, You are good, and Your love endures forever. Thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. Help me to cultivate a heart of gratitude, to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness every night. May my life be a song of thanksgiving to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
