My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

Seeking the Wisdom of God
By Jennifer Kane
In many ways,
I must seek the wisdom of God.
I must receive His words—
and hide His commands within me.
I must treasure them—
like silver, stored deep in the soul.
I must incline my ear to wisdom—
and turn my heart toward understanding.
I must apply my mind—
and bend my will to obey.
I must cry out for insight—
and lift up my voice for understanding.
I must seek it as I would treasure—
and search for it as for hidden gold.
Then, I will understand the fear of the Lord.
Then, I will find the knowledge of God.

Scripture: Proverbs 2:1-11
From the playground to the palace, wisdom is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Children, adults, leaders, laborers—no one outgrows their need for God’s guidance. In Proverbs 2:1–11, we are invited to pursue wisdom not passively but passionately. Solomon urges, “If you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord” (vv. 4–5).
This is no casual advice. It’s a call to dig deep—to cry out, lift up our voices, and incline our hearts toward understanding. The pursuit of God’s wisdom must be earnest, persistent, and treasured like precious silver. And the reward? A life guarded by discernment, preserved by discretion, and guided by righteousness.
Verse 6 anchors the passage: “For the Lord gives wisdom.” True wisdom doesn’t originate from experience, intellect, or social standing. It comes from the mouth of God—from His Word, His Spirit, and His presence. When we receive His words and store them in our hearts, our character is shaped by truth. We begin to walk in “every good path” (v. 9), forming habits that honor Him and bless others.
Whether you are a young person choosing friends, a worker seeking direction, or a leader guiding many, God’s wisdom is your greatest asset. The Lord becomes your shield (v. 7), guarding your steps and preserving your soul. When wisdom enters your heart, your life gains clarity, your decisions gain depth, and your soul finds peace.
Ask yourself today: Do I pursue God’s wisdom with the same passion that the world pursues wealth? Open your Bible with eagerness. Cry out to God in prayer for understanding. Let His wisdom enter your heart and guide your every step—from the small choices to the great ones.

Lord God, I need Your wisdom. Help me not to lean on my own understanding but to seek Your words as treasure. Teach me to cry out for discernment and lift up my voice for understanding. Guard my path with Your truth and let discretion preserve me. Fill my heart with the joy of knowing You more deeply each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
