Samson went down to Timnah and saw there a young Philistine woman. When he returned, he said to his father and mother, “I have seen a Philistine woman in Timnah; now get her for me as my wife.” His father and mother replied, “Isn’t there an acceptable woman among your relatives or among all our people? Must you go to the uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me. She’s the right one for me.” (His parents did not know that this was from the Lord, who was seeking an occasion to confront the Philistines; for at that time they were ruling over Israel.)
—Judges 14:1-4
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
—2 Corinthians 6:14-15
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
—2 Timothy 2:20-21

Let Me See With Your Eyes
By Jennifer Kane
Let me see with Your eyes—
not mine.
Not the flash of charm,
nor the thrill of touch,
but the quiet flame of faith,
the fruit of righteousness.
Lead my heart to wait,
to weigh,
to watch—
not to rush where desire runs wild.
Teach me patience,
not passivity—
discernment,
not disinterest.
Let my love for You
shape every longing,
anchor every choice,
filter every dream.
Not my emotions,
not my fears,
not the loneliness that whispers lies.
Let me obey Your will for me—
not resist,
not rewrite,
not settle.
Make me a vessel of honor,
cleansed, set apart,
useful for every good purpose.
Work through me, Lord,
not in spite of me.
I yield.
Please—
lead me in love,
as You would have it.

Scripture: Judges 14:1–4, 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, 2 Timothy 2:20–21
Samson was driven by what looked good to him—“she is right in my eyes” (Judges 14:3). He demanded a Philistine wife, ignoring his parents’ counsel and disregarding God’s will. Though God would ultimately use Samson’s flawed choice to confront Israel’s enemies, the cost was high. Pain, betrayal, and spiritual compromise marked his path.
In contrast, God calls us to something higher: relationships that reflect His holiness. “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers,” Paul wrote (2 Corinthians 6:14), because unity in Christ is the foundation for lasting, godly love. When we choose a partner who shares our faith, values, and devotion to Christ, we honor God—and protect ourselves from heartache that often comes from spiritual disunity.
Like Samson, we might feel an intense attraction and believe we’ve found “the one.” But true love is more than physical desire or emotional pull—it’s a covenant, grounded in mutual faith, tested character, and spiritual unity.
God doesn’t want us to settle for relationships that merely please our eyes or feelings. He desires we seek those that please Him—pure, purposeful, and rooted in Christ. These kinds of relationships can become vessels for honor, useful to the Master (2 Timothy 2:21).
Am I seeking God’s will or my own desires in the relationships I pursue?
Do I believe that God can provide a partner who both attracts me and honors Him?
Have I been tempted to justify compromise because of loneliness or impatience?
Ask God today to align your desires with His. If you are in a relationship, examine whether it glorifies Christ. If you are single, pray for the patience and discernment to wait for a partner who walks with Jesus—not just in name, but in fruit and faith.

Father, help me to desire what pleases You above what pleases my eyes or heart alone. Guard me from compromise. Lead me into relationships that honor You, and make me into a vessel fit for Your use. In your name, Jesus I pray, Amen.
