Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever. In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. But the wicked will perish: Though the Lord’s enemies are like the flowers of the field, they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke. The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; those the Lord blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be destroyed. The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing. Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish. The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.
—Psalms 37:16-29

Green With Gratitude
By Jennifer Kane
They have more than I do, Yet I have enough,
Always climbing higher, My roots sink deep,
They see the shine and ache, I see the light and praise,
Why not me, Lord? Why not trust Him?
The wicked bloom bold, The faithful bear fruit,
They laugh without care, I laugh with joy,
Their steps seem sure, My steps are guided,.
They grind their teeth, I lift my eyes,
Desire coils in secret, Peace settles like dew,
Their riches rule, His mercy reigns,
They draw the sword, I draw near to God,
Greed is a flood, Gratitude is a well,
They take what they can, I receive what He gives,
Their way ends in smoke, My way ends in peace.
Better the little of the righteous,
Than the wealth of many wicked.
The Lord upholds the just.
He knows our days.
Ourr inheritance endures.
He delights in our way.
Though we stumble, we will not fall.
For the Lord holds our hand.
The blameless will not be forgotten.
The righteous give freely.
He will not forsake His saints.
The Lord loves justice.
He will not abandon His faithful ones.
The righteous shall inherit the land.

Scripture: Psalms 37:16-29
There are days when we feel small. Our homes feel too humble, our bank accounts too thin, our lives too quiet. And in those moments—when we scroll through someone else’s success, see their luxuries, or hear their laughter without care—we may feel something creeping in: envy.
Envy is a thief of joy and a distorter of truth. It tells us that we’re missing out, that others have what we deserve, that God has forgotten us. But Psalm 37 calls us into a better way—a holy remembering of what is true.
God sees. God knows. God provides—not always with wealth or worldly status, but with faithful presence, daily provision, and an eternal inheritance.
When I compare myself to others, I begin to feel insecure. But this insecurity only arises when I take my eyes off of God and start measuring life by the world’s standards instead of His promises. My spirit wavers not because God has failed, but because I’ve looked away.
But when I turn back to Him, I see things differently. That “little” I have is not little at all—it’s a gift wrapped in mercy. My “lack” is filled with the riches of God’s peace, provision, and steadfast love.
Gratitude doesn’t come from getting everything we want—it flows from recognizing what we already have in Christ. The shift from greed to gratitude is not achieved by effort, but by faith. It is the Lord who transforms our hearts, teaching us to trust Him as our Shepherd, Provider, and Portion.
When we stop staring at the world and fix our gaze on Jesus, our hearts grow green—not with envy, but with thankfulness.
We begin to bloom with contentment, deeply rooted in His promises.
Take five minutes today to list what you’re thankful for—spiritually, emotionally, relationally, physically. Then pray a simple prayer of gratitude.

Heavenly Father, help me take my eyes off the world and fix them on You. Remind me that You uphold me, provide for me, and promise me an eternal inheritance. Turn my envy into worship and my fear into trust. Thank you Jesus for being patient as I learn and relearn the lessons you teach me, Amen.
