“The Spirit Reveals”

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
—1 Corinthians 2:6-16

The Spirit Reveals
By Jennifer Kane

The wisdom of this world
cannot hold a candle
to what the Spirit makes known.
Kings and rulers,
thinkers and scribes—
they missed it.
The mystery
was hidden before time began,
before the mountains breathed,
before dust became man.

No eye had seen it,
no ear had heard,
no heart had dreamed
what God prepared
for those who love Him.

Yet the Spirit reveals.

He moves where He wills,
searching even the deep places of God—
depths no human light could reach.
Not in lectures or logic,
but in whispers,
He speaks.

We are not taught
by the spirit of the world—
that restless wind
chasing knowledge without truth—
but by the Spirit who is from God,
who gives words
no scholar could coin,
no mind could conjure.

We have been given
the mind of Christ.
And so we see differently—
not through the lens of flesh,
but Spirit.

But now,
I find myself in this mystery.

The veil lifts
and suddenly
the Word breathes.

What was once foolishness to me
becomes wisdom.
What was once hidden
now burns in my chest.

The Spirit teaches me—
gently,
firmly—
showing me
what love looks like
in the mind of God.

Not earned,
not learned—
but received.

I would never have known
the thoughts of God,
had His Spirit not chosen
to dwell in me.

Now,
I have the mind of Christ.

And I see.
And I believe.
And I am changed.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

The world is full of voices claiming to be wise—gurus, influencers, philosophers, and self-help experts. Yet Scripture teaches us there is a wisdom that this world cannot comprehend: the hidden wisdom of God, revealed only through His Spirit. Paul reminds the Corinthian believers that although God’s wisdom is not flashy or popular by the world’s standards, it is real, eternal, and glorious.

The rulers of this age—whether worldly authorities or the spiritual forces behind them—did not recognize the wisdom of God. If they had, they never would have crucified the Lord of glory. That crucifixion, meant to silence Jesus, became the ultimate revelation of God’s love and power. God’s wisdom often comes disguised in weakness, humility, and mystery—foolishness to the world, but salvation to those who believe.

Paul goes further to say that what eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor entered into the heart of man—God has revealed to us through His Spirit. This isn’t about heaven someday; it’s about spiritual understanding now. The Spirit searches even the deep things of God and makes them known to those who love Him.

This means that believers are not left grasping in the dark. When you are born again, you receive the Spirit of God—not the spirit of the world—and with Him comes access to spiritual discernment and understanding. You don’t need a seminary degree to understand God’s heart; what you need is the Holy Spirit.

Yet not everyone understands this wisdom. Paul tells us that the “natural man”—someone without the Spirit—cannot understand spiritual truths. They may scoff at prayer, dismiss the cross, and mock the hope of the gospel. Without spiritual discernment, these things seem like foolishness.

But we—those led by the Spirit—have the mind of Christ. That means we are not only able to know what God desires, but also to live and love in a way that reflects His heart. We see differently. We value differently. We walk by faith, not by sight.

This doesn’t make us proud—it humbles us. The only reason we understand anything about God is because He chose to reveal it. He opened our eyes, softened our hearts, and gave us His Spirit.

Are you living by the spirit of the world—or by the Spirit of God?
Do I seek God’s wisdom in decisions, or lean on my own understanding?
Do I prioritize spiritual growth, or am I still thinking like a “natural person”?
Am I growing in spiritual discernment, understanding not just what is right, but what is best?

Spend time this week praying for deeper spiritual insight. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the deep things of God—not for knowledge alone, but to walk in greater love, truth, and power.

Father, thank You for not leaving me to figure out life on my own. Thank You for sending Your Spirit to dwell in me, to teach me, and to reveal Your wisdom. I confess that I sometimes chase the world’s opinions more than I seek Your truth. Help me to rely on the Spirit’s voice and to discern spiritual things with a spiritual mind. Let me walk with the mind of Christ—humbly, wisely, and in step with Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
