“Fruit: Patience”

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.
—James 5:7–8

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
—Romans 8:23-25

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
—Galatians 6:8-9

Fruit: Patience
By Jennifer Kane

Patience is faith that waits and stays,
Through weary nights and restless days.
It holds to hope, though unseen still,
And trusts the Lord to work His will.

Like farmers watching seeds take root,
It waits for time to bring forth fruit.
No hurried hand, no anxious cry—
Just steady trust as days go by.

It knows the Lord is never late,
His promises will not abate.
Though clouds may hide the morning light,
His word will dawn, His ways are right.

We sow in tears, we reap in grace,
When steadfast hearts hold to the race.
For in due time, the fruit will show,
If we press on and do not slow.

Patience does more than bide and stand—
It rests secure in God’s own hand.
It sees beyond the present years,
And waits with joy, not doubt or fears.

So let this fruit grow firm and sure,
Through trials long, through paths obscure.
For those who wait on God’s design
Shall taste the harvest, sweet and fine.

Scriptures: James 5:7–8, Romans 8:23-25, Galatians 6:8-9

Patience is more than waiting—it is how we wait. James uses the example of a farmer who plants in hope, tends the soil, and then trusts the seasons to do their work. He cannot force the rains to come sooner, nor the crop to ripen faster. His role is faithfulness; the results belong to God.

In the same way, we are called to live with an enduring faith—holding fast to God’s promises even when we cannot see the outcome yet. This patience is fueled by hope: “the Lord’s coming is near.” One day, every promise will be fulfilled, every wrong will be made right, and every tear will be wiped away.

Paul also emphasizes patience in Romans when he says: “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

Patience doesn’t mean passivity. It means actively trusting God’s plan, obeying His Word, and persevering when circumstances tempt us to give up. It is rooted in knowing that God is never late and never fails to keep His word.

In Galatians Paul encourages us with the same metaphor of waiting for a harvest: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

When our faith feels stretched thin, we can remember that God’s timing is always perfect—and that the waiting is not wasted. He uses the delay to grow our roots deeper in Him, preparing us for the day when the harvest comes.

Where in your life is God calling you to wait with faith and perseverance?
How might He be using this season of waiting to grow your character?
What promise from His Word can you hold onto while you wait?

~~~~~
Father God, thank You for being faithful in every season. Help me to trust Your timing, even when I long for answers now. Teach me to wait with hope, to stand firm in faith, and to keep doing good while I wait. Let my patience reflect my trust in You, knowing that You are always on time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
