Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
— Jeremiah 1:5
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
— Romans 8:29-30
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
— 1 Peter 1:1-2

Attributes of God: Foreknowledge
By Jennifer Kane
Before my life took breath or form,
The Lord in love foreknew;
He set His seal, His gracious plan,
To make my spirit new.
Not foresight of my fleeting choice,
But love that reached from high;
He purposed me in Christ His Son,
That I be sanctified.
The golden chain of grace is sure:
Foreknown, called, justified;
And glorified I yet shall stand,
With Christ my Lord, my Guide.
So let the trials press me now,
My hope shall never move;
For I am known before all time,
Secured in endless love.

Scripture: Jeremiah 1:5, Romans 8:29-30, 1 Peter 1:1-2
When Scripture speaks of God’s foreknowledge, it does not mean that God merely looked down the corridors of time to discover what His people would do. That view makes God a passive observer of human choices. But the Bible presents God’s foreknowledge as far more powerful and personal: it is His eternal plan of love and purpose for His people.
Remember that before Jeremiah ever took a breath, God knew him and had already set him apart. There is a golden chain of salvation: foreknown, predestined, called, justified, glorified. Here, foreknowledge is not foresight—it is the intimate setting of God’s love upon His people in eternity.
Peter writes to believers scattered across the world and reminds them they are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God. In other words, their place in God’s family, their salvation through Christ’s blood, and their sanctification by the Spirit are not accidents of history. They are part of the eternal purpose of God, flowing from His sovereign love.
Foreknowledge is personal. To be foreknown is to be fore-loved, eternally cherished by the God who determined not just to see our salvation but to accomplish it through His Son.
Do you find security in God’s foreknowledge? He has known and loved you from before the foundation of the world. Let this truth quiet your doubts and fears. You are not an afterthought. You are not overlooked. You are eternally planned, chosen, and loved.
Today, when you pray, thank God specifically for knowing you and choosing you in Christ.

Eternal Father, I praise You for loving me before time began. Thank You that Your foreknowledge is not mere foresight, but Your sovereign and gracious purpose for my life. When doubts assail me, remind me I am Yours. When I feel forgotten, lift my eyes to Your eternal love. Thank You for foreknowing, predestining, calling, justifying, and one day glorifying me in Christ. Keep me faithful, Lord, until that day, when Your eternal purpose is complete in me. Amen.
