“Attributes of God: Supremacy”

Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.
— Psalm 115:3

“All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done?’”
— Daniel 4:35

For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
— Romans 11:36

Attributes of God: Supremacy
By Jennifer Kane

The Lord, enthroned in majesty,
No rival shares His throne;
He rules the nations by His will,
And reigns supreme alone.

No hand can stay what He ordains,
No counsel can contest;
His purposes are firm and sure,
His judgments all are best.

When kings are humbled by His might,
They bow before His name;
Like Nebuchadnezzar of old,
Confessing God’s acclaim.

For those who trust His sovereign hand,
All trials serve His plan;
No evil can undo the good
God works for those who stand.

So let our hearts in Him be still,
Our pride and fears laid down;
The universe is safe and sure
Beneath His holy crown.

Scripture: Psalm 115:5, Daniel 4:35, Romans 11:36

To confess the supremacy of God is to declare that He answers to no one. His authority is absolute. His power is unlimited. His will is the ultimate cause behind all that is.

Unlike earthly rulers who are bound by laws, councils, or limitations, God rules alone. His pleasure is perfect, holy, and unchanging.

King Nebuchadnezzar after his humbling in Daniel, declares God’s supremacy over all nations and powers. No one can resist His hand. No one can challenge His purposes. He reigns without rival.

For the believer, this truth is not meant to crush us but to comfort us. If God is supreme, then nothing can happen outside of His will. Every trial, every hardship, every enemy attack must pass through His sovereign permission. This means that no suffering is wasted and no evil can overturn His good purpose. As Paul writes in Romans, “all things work together for good to them that love God.”

The supremacy of God humbles our pride, silences our complaints, and lifts our fears. The universe is not out of control—it is under the hand of the Supreme King.

Where do you struggle to trust God’s supremacy? Is it in your trials, your unanswered prayers, or your fears about the future? Today, lay those anxieties at His feet. Remember: nothing can touch your life apart from His sovereign will—and in Christ, His will is always for your eternal good.

Supreme Lord of heaven and earth, You do all things according to Your will, and no one can stay Your hand. I confess that too often I fear men, circumstances, or the unknown, forgetting that You reign over all. Strengthen my faith to rest in Your supremacy. Teach me to see every trial as part of Your good purpose in Christ. When I feel small or overwhelmed, remind me that my life is safely held in the hands of the One who rules without rival. To You alone belongs the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
