Attribute of God: Holiness
By Jennifer Kane
Holiness is the beauty of the LORD,
The song of salvation, our greatest reward,
Radiant splendor, so flawless and pure,
The song throughout heaven, steadfast and sure
The hosts of heaven sing, “Holy, holy, holy” Filling the halls with unending glory.
Holiness is the beauty of the LORD-
Forever be exalted, forever be adored.
No blemish dwells in His radiant light,
His justice and mercy in perfect right,
Holiness calls His people to be apart,
To walk in light, to keep humble at heart.
So let our hearts in reverence sing,
To the Holy One, to God to King
Eternal, unchanging, LORD of love,
Crowned in all glory, enthroned above.

Scripture: Isaiah 6:3, Psalm 99:9, Leviticus 11:44a, 1 Samuel 2:2, Revelation 4:8
When Scripture speaks of God, one attribute rises above all others: His holiness. Holiness is not just one aspect of who God is—it is His very nature.♧
In Isaiah, God is repeatedly called “the Holy One of Israel.” More than a title, it reveals His essence. God is set apart from all creation—perfect, pure, and unchanging in His goodness. His holiness is the light by which every other attribute of His shines.
Around His throne, the seraphim never tire of crying, “Holy, holy, holy” (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8). Heaven reverberates with this truth. Worship is sustained not by novelty but by the eternal wonder of God’s holiness.
Isaiah fell to the ground in trembling confession when confronted with God’s holiness (Isaiah 6:5). Psalm 96:9 calls us to “worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” God’s holiness humbles us yet draws us to deeper reverence and devotion.
God’s holiness means He cannot overlook sin. His justice demands judgment, yet His holy love provides redemption. At the cross, God’s holiness was revealed in both wrath against sin and mercy toward sinners. The blood of Christ cleanses us, making us holy in His sight.
God calls His people to reflect His holiness: “Be holy, because I am holy” (Leviticus 11:44). We are set apart, not by our own merit, but by His Spirit working within us. Holiness is not just separation from sin but consecration to God’s purposes.
God is love, God is just, God is merciful—but all of these find their perfect harmony in His holiness. His holiness inspires awe, demands reverence, and calls us higher. It is both our comfort and our challenge.

Holy God, You are set apart above all creation. Your holiness fills the heavens and the earth with glory. In awe, I bow before You. Cleanse me by the blood of Jesus, set me apart for Your purposes, and help me walk in holiness all my days. May my life reflect Your light so that others may glorify You. Amen.
