“Attributes of God: Power”

Your right hand, Lord, was majestic in power. Your right hand, Lord, shattered the enemy.
– Exodus 15:6

Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
– Jeremiah 32:17

Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
– Psalm 147:5

That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.

Attributes of God: Power
By Jennifer Kane

Your mighty hand, O Lord, prevails,
It shatters every foe;
No weapon formed against Your will
Can halt the power You show.

By word alone, the worlds were made,
The stars obey Your call;
The winds and seas their Master praise,
Your power rules them all.

That power raised the crucified,
The grave was overcome;
Now Christ is seated, glorified,
At Your right hand enthroned.

Almighty God, all praise is Yours,
Your strength will never cease;
Your power secures, sustains, restores,
And guards our souls in peace.

Scripture: Exodus 15:6, Jeremiah 32:17, Psalm 147:5, Ephesians 1:19-20

God’s power is His ability and strength to bring to pass everything He has willed. It is not dormant potential but an active, constant, and effective force. His power is sovereign—exercised according to His own good pleasure; irresistible—it cannot be thwarted; and infinite—without limit.

The creation of the universe from nothing by the mere word of His mouth is the ultimate demonstration of His power. He continues to uphold and sustain everything, from the farthest galaxy to the smallest sparrow, by the word of His might.

Around us, nature itself gives glimpses of power: the blazing sun, the vast sea, the mighty winds, and the uncountable stars. Yet, all these forces of strength and wonder bow before their Maker. God’s power is above them all—He is the Creator, not the created. The sun rises and sets by His command, the oceans stop where He marks their boundary, and the stars shine only because He calls them out by name.

We see His power displayed in miracles that transcend natural law: the Virgin Birth, Christ’s healings, and the Resurrection. And this same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead now works within every believer (Ephesians 1:19-20). It strengthens us to overcome sin, endure trials, and serve God faithfully.

If God has all power, then the believer has no cause for fear. The One who holds the universe together is also our Father. Understanding His omnipotence should humble us, silence our complaints, and lead us to reverent worship.

Importantly, God’s power always operates in perfect harmony with His wisdom, holiness, justice, and love. He never acts recklessly or unjustly. Unlike human power, His cannot be manipulated for selfish gain. His power calls us to trust, obedience, and awe.

The truth of God’s power destroys human pride and instills deep humility. It reassures us that our faith is not in a weak or limited deity but in the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of all things. And He uses His power for the salvation and preservation of His people.

This week, whenever fear or doubt arises, pause and remind yourself: “Nothing is too hard for God” (Jeremiah 32:17). Pray boldly, worship reverently, and walk in confidence knowing that His resurrection power is at work in you.

Almighty God, You who spoke the heavens into being and set the boundaries for the sea, we stand in awe of Your power. Thank You that the same strength that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in us today. Help us to trust You above our fears, to bow before You in humility, and to live in the confidence that nothing is too hard for You. May our lives reflect Your power through faith, obedience, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
