“A Lifelong Walk With God”

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
— Proverbs 3:1-8

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.
— Proverbs 3:13-18

My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.
— Proverbs 3:22-26

A Lifelong Walk with God
by Jennifer Kane

In childhood’s dawn, I heard You call,
A whisper soft, yet guiding all.
I held Your hand, though paths unknown,
And trusted love that led me home.

In youth, I learned to walk in light,
Through lessons deep and gentle might.
Your words became my steadfast guide,
When doubts arose and fear would chide.

In strength of years, I learned to stand,
To build with wisdom’s shaping hand.
Your truth became the work I do,
A life of service born of You.

When silver crowns the years You’ve blessed,
My striving will still, my soul at rest.
For every joy and trial I faced,
Has been a lifelong walk in faith.

Each season writes upon my heart,
The faith that grows, the sacred art—
To love, to trust, to humbly see,
That wisdom walks eternally.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:1-8, Proverbs 3:13-18, Proverbs 3:22-26

Wisdom is not learned in a single day—it grows with us, matures with our faith, and ripens through the seasons of our lives. In Proverbs 3, we meet Wisdom as both a teacher and companion, guiding us from childlike trust to mature understanding, and finally to peaceful confidence in the Lord.

The Child: Young Wisdom — Trusting the Father

She is a young girl, all knees and elbows, her braids not yet perfectly straight. She listens to her father’s words with wide eyes, not yet understanding their full meaning, but trusting his love completely.

At this stage, wisdom begins with trust. The child doesn’t question where the path leads—she simply holds her Father’s hand. This is the foundation of all understanding: not intellect, but surrender.

When faith feels small or uncertain, remember that God does not ask us to have all the answers—only to trust the One who does. Like a child learning to walk, each step of obedience strengthens our faith.

The Adult: Mature Wisdom — Living with Understanding

Now Wisdom is a woman in her prime—steady, fruitful, industrious. She no longer only listens; she builds. Her hands are skillful, her mind discerning.

This is the season of applied wisdom—when what we have learned takes root in our daily lives. Her choices yield peace, stability, and blessing not only for herself, but for all who rest in her shade.

In this stage, wisdom calls us to work diligently, to lead others with grace, and to live what we’ve learned. True wisdom shows not in what we know, but in how we love, serve, and build in God’s name.

The Elder: Seasoned Wisdom — Resting in Confidence

Her hair is silver now, her steps slower, but her peace unshakable. The striving of youth is gone; what remains is quiet assurance in the Lord.

This is the wisdom of settled faith. The child’s necklace of faithfulness and the woman’s jewels of understanding have become the Elder’s crown of grace. Her confidence no longer comes from what she knows or does, but from who God is.

As faith matures, fear loses its grip. The wise heart can sleep in peace, not because the world is safe, but because God is sovereign.

Wisdom is not a single revelation but a lifelong transformation:
As a Child, she learns to trust.
As an Adult, she learns to live with understanding.
As an Elder, she learns to rest in God’s peace.

This is the beautiful progression of Proverbs 3—a call to walk hand-in-hand with God from our first trembling steps to our final, steady rest in His arms.

Father, teach me to grow in Your wisdom through every season of life. Help me trust You like a child, serve You with understanding as an adult, and rest in Your peace as the years unfold. May my heart be rooted in You, my confidence secure in Your love. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
