And God said, ‘Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.’ So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.’ And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
— Genesis 1:20–23
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
— Job 12:7–10
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
— Matthew 6:26
How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.
— Psalm 104:24–25

Birds and Fish
By Jennifer Kane
In air and sea, His wonders gleam,
Two worlds that move as one great theme—
The bird that soars, the fish that glides,
Both shaped by wisdom, none divides.
For hollow wing and silver scale
Are testimonies that never fail—
They whisper soft, “The Lord is wise,
His design fills earth and skies.”
And when we journey, far or near,
Through tempests wild or skies made clear,
He guides with light we cannot see—
The Spirit’s song, our certainty.
For as the flocks and schools align,
We too are drawn by Love divine;
Together bound, we find our way,
Led homeward by the Lamb who saves.
So whether sky or ocean deep,
His watchful eye will ever keep;
The same God rules both fin and wing—
And I, His child, in trust, shall sing.

Scripture: Genesis 1:20–23, Job 12:7–10, Matthew 6:26, Psalm 104:24–25
With the sky and seas now formed, God spoke again—and what was once empty came alive. The waters began to teem with life, and the skies filled with the songs of birds. Creation’s stillness gave way to motion, sound, and color. The world became vibrant, diverse, and alive with purpose.
In His wisdom, God designed each creature with its own place and role, from the smallest fish darting through the coral to the great whales echoing through the deep, from the soaring eagle to the tiny sparrow that finds shelter in His care. Every living thing became a testimony to His creativity and power. And after creating them, God blessed them—the first recorded blessing in Scripture. His blessing was not merely existence, but abundance and multiplication. Life was meant to overflow.
Job reminds us that every creature bears silent witness to the hand of the Lord. The very breath of life that animates creation flows from His own Spirit. The creatures of sea and sky reveal something about their Maker’s nature—His joy in diversity, His attention to detail, and His sustaining power over all that breathes.
Jesus pointed to the birds as teachers of trust: they neither plant nor plan, yet they are fed by the Father’s hand. If God so carefully provides for them, how much more will He care for those made in His image? The same God who filled the seas and skies continues to fill our lives with His abundance—grace upon grace, blessing upon blessing.
Psalm 104 echoes creation’s song: the earth is full of God’s works, and all proclaim His wisdom. Every flutter of wings, every ripple in the sea, is an act of praise to the One who made them. When we open our eyes to creation, we join in that unending worship—a symphony of life declaring the goodness of God.
Where do you see God’s abundance reflected in your life? Sometimes His blessings don’t look like excess but like enough—daily bread, breath in your lungs, peace in your soul. Take time to thank Him for the ways He has filled your “empty spaces” with life, love, and purpose.
Spend time outdoors today—listen to the birds, watch the movement of water or the wind. Let creation remind you of God’s sustaining hand and His promise to care for you. Offer a prayer of praise for the abundance and beauty that surround you.

Heavenly Father and inspirational Creator, how marvelous are Your works! You fill the heavens and the seas with life and color, and You fill my heart with Your Spirit. Teach me to trust in Your care as the birds do, to rejoice in Your blessings, and to live in gratitude for all You provide. May my life, too, be fruitful and full of praise. Amen.
