Then God said, ‘Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.’ And it was so… Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’ God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
— Genesis 1:24–31
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
— Ephesians 2:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
— Psalm 139:14

In The Image
By Jennifer Kane
Then came the crown of all He made,
Not beast nor bird, but formed with care—
A soul that mirrors His own heart,
His breath of life, His love to share.
“Whose image do you see?” He asked,
A coin held up beneath the sun;
If Caesar’s mark is carved in gold,
Then God’s is stamped on everyone.
For we are fearfully composed,
Woven with wonder, truth, and grace;
The Potter’s art, the Master’s plan,
His fingerprints upon our face.
His workmanship—each heart designed,
Created for His glory’s song;
Redeemed to walk in works of love,
Where faith and purpose both belong.
So let the world reflect His light,
Through every word and deed we live;
For made in His image, we were formed
To love, to serve, and to forgive.

Scripture: Genesis 1:24–31, Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 139:14
The sixth day marks the height of God’s creative masterpiece. The land teems with life once more—animals of every kind roaming, grazing, and breathing by His command. But then the tone shifts: the Creator pauses, speaks in divine counsel, and says, “Let us make mankind in our image.”
No other part of creation receives such intimacy or honor. Humanity is set apart—not in power alone, but in purpose and likeness. To bear God’s image is to reflect His nature: His capacity to love, to reason, to create, to show mercy, to steward life, and to commune with Him. We are not mere inhabitants of creation—we are its caretakers, entrusted to mirror the heart of our Maker in all we do.
Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s handiwork—crafted intentionally, lovingly, and purposefully through Christ Jesus. Our design was never random; our existence is not accidental. The same hands that shaped the stars shaped us to reveal His glory on earth.
Psalm 139 gives us a deeply personal echo of Genesis 1: we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Every heartbeat, every breath, and every thought bears the signature of divine craftsmanship. God looked upon creation and said, “It is good.” But when He made humanity, He said, “It is very good.” We are the crown of His creation—not for our perfection, but because of our relationship with Him.
Yet being made in God’s image is not merely an honor—it is a calling. We are invited to walk with Him, to care for His creation, and to reflect His character in how we live and love. Stewardship is worship when we honor the Creator through the care of what He’s made—our relationships, the earth, and the souls around us.
Have you ever paused to consider the sacred truth that you bear the image of God? In a world quick to diminish worth or distort identity, remember: your value is not measured by what you achieve, but by Whose image you reflect. You were created to walk closely with Him, to love deeply, and to bring His goodness into the world.
Look for ways today to reflect God’s image—through an act of kindness, a word of encouragement, or care for His creation. As you serve others, remember that every good work shines the light of the Creator through you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me in Your image and calling me to reflect Your love and wisdom in all I do. Teach me to see others as Your handiwork and to steward Your creation with care and gratitude. May my life bring You glory, today and always. Amen.
